World Constitutions Illustrated - We already have scholars and libraries offering to join the project!

Libraries and scholars are already collaborating!

On Monday we announced that World Constitutions Illustrated, our newest legal research platform, is available. In four short days, we have already had a lecturer from Zambia in Southern Africa offer to contribute, a librarian from the University of Miami interested in becoming a country editor, and a number of suggestions for additional constitutional periodicals. One of our collaborators has even provided us with an English translation of a constitutional document for the Republic of South Korea.

This response is exactly what we are hoping for! We invite librarians, scholars, and constitutional law experts from all over the world to contribute their works and knowledge to help us continue building the constitutional development for every country.

We extend a thank you to the following scholars, universities, organizations, and libraries who have contributed to the project so far:

World Constitutions Illustrated is Now Available in HeinOnline

World Constitutions Illustrated:
Contemporary & Historical Documents & Resources

We are pleased to announce that World Constitutions Illustrated is now available as an a-la-carte library in HeinOnline. With the release of this library we are introducing a new legal research platform that brings together constitutional documents, books, articles, bibliographic references, and web sites all into one database. It offers a different scope than what's already out there for researchers studying constitutional law and political science.

The initial release includes the current constitution for every country (193 countries) and substantial constitutional hierarchies for the United Kingdom, France, Brazil and Colombia.

Every country includes:
  • The current constitution in its original language format
  • Links to commentaries and other relevant sources such as the World Fact Book, Annual Human Rights Reports Submitted to Congress by the U.S. Department of State, and Country Studies
  • Direct links to specific chapters within the 800 classic constitutional books that discuss the country
  • Links to scholarly articles that discuss the constitutional and political development of the country
  • A bibliography of other select constitutional books about the constitutional development or the history of the government
  • Links to online sources such as the Portals of the World and the official government website for the country
We've connected hundreds of historical documents to provide you with a historical view of the country's constitution.

In addition to the four substantial constitutional hierarchies that we have built for the United Kingdom, France, Brazil and Colombia, we have connected thousands of other historical constitutional documents from the British & Foreign State Papers, Peaslee's Constitutions of Nations, Dodd's Modern Constitutions, and other sources.

COMING SOON!

World Constitutions Illustrated:
Contemporary & Historical Documents & Resources

HeinOnline is pleased to announce that next week we will be releasing our newest a-la-carte library, World Constitutions Illustrated. Focusing on the study of world constitutions both historic and current, individual governments, and the history of each nation, this library will allow legal scholars to research the constitutional and political development of the nations that make up our global community. With the launch of this new library, we are introducing a new legal research platform that brings together constitutional documents, books, articles, bibliographic references, and web sites all into one database!

The initial release of World Constitutions Illustrated will feature:
  • The current constitution for every country
  • Substantial constitutional histories for the United Kingdom, France, Brazil and Colombia (among others)
  • More than 800 classic books about constitutional law
  • More than a dozen legal periodicals focused on constitutional law
  • Other sources such as Annual Human Rights Reports Submitted to Congress, Country Studies, Modern Legal Systems Cyclopedia and the World Fact Book
  • The complete set of the British and Foreign State Papers (1812-1968)
  • Links to scholarly articles
  • Links to online resources
  • Bibliographies of important works
  • And much more!
Every country is linked directly to its primary and secondary resources. This means you will be able to jump to France, for example, and view all the resources related to the constitutional and political development of the country, all in one place!

Collaborate and contribute!

The collection is in its infancy and will only grow. Just as we did with the Law Journal Library ten years ago, we want to partner with again you to build the world's greatest collection of constitutions and constitutional resources. If you have a book, constitutional document, or suggestion for an article, or if you specialize in the constitutional law of a specific country or have access to a foreign law collection, we invite you to contribute and help us build the collection.

More information about the content and subscription options will be available soon. Stay tuned for more details about HeinOnline's forthcoming World Constitutions Illustrated!

Collection Development Survey - Tell Us What You Would Like to See Added to HeinOnline

Two years ago we distributed a collection development survey to find out what content you wanted to see added to HeinOnline and how you would prioritize them in terms of importance. We are pleased to announce that the six collections we asked you to prioritize two years ago have since been added to HeinOnline and are fully available, including the U.S. Code, Bar Journals and the entire back file of the CFR.

Now we would like to ask you for your feedback again. We have outlined nine collections for which we would like you to indicate the level of priority you would assign to each in regards to seeing it included in HeinOnline.  We also invite any additional feedback about adding new collections or adding new material to collections already available.

Try Our New Beta Journals Collection Home Page - Quick Access to Search & Citation Options

Recently, we distributed a HeinOnline development survey to obtain more insight as to the ways in which you are using the database.  After reviewing the feedback that we received, we learned that the majority of our users are searching the database or they are accessing articles and documents using a citation.  As a response, we have created a Beta Collection Home page for the Law Journal Library.  This new Beta Collection Home page presents you with a:

  • Quick search option where you can quickly search for an article
  • Simple citation box in which you type the bluebook citation
  • The title lookup tool to quickly search for a publication title
  • Google Scholar search widgets where you can search just HeinOnline titles using the Google Scholar interface, or search all of Google Scholar
We invite you to test this new Beta Collection Home page for the Law Journal Library and provide us with your feedback.  To access the Beta Collection Home page, click on the Resources tab in the upper left hand corner from within the Law Journal Library, then click on the link in the sidebar that says "Beta Collection Home".  Or, you can follow this link to test out the new page, http://www.heinonline.org/HOL/JournalsLanding?collection=journals&men_tab=nav&men_hide=false.*

After you have tested the Beta page, we would like to hear your feedback.  You can send us feedback via email at holsupport@wshein.com or you can click on the "Feedback" button in the upper right hand corner of HeinOnline.

*To access this Beta Collection Home page, you must be subscribed to HeinOnline's Law Journal Library.
