HeinOnline's Tip of the Week: Use Zotero with HeinOnline

For all of you HeinOnline users out there who use Zotero, we have good news. Zotero is now compatible with HeinOnline's Law Journal Library. Users are able to bookmark articles directly from a search results list in HeinOnline, or when viewing the pages of an article.
For those of you unfamiliar with Zotero, it "is a free, easy-to-use Firefox extension to help you collect, manage, and cite your research sources."
We've included a short tutorial on how to use Zotero in HeinOnline. For more help using Zotero, we recommend visiting the Zotero support page.

To use Zotero you must be using Firefox. For the purposes of this tutorial we will assume that you have already installed Firefox, as well as the Zotero extension.

One way to use Zotero with HeinOnline is bookmarking articles directly from a search results list. Below you'll see I have generated a list of search results in the Law Journal Library.

To bookmark some of these results, click on the folder icon located in the Firefox address bar.

You will be presented with a dialog box that gives you the option to select the articles you would like to bookmark.

Users can also bookmark an article they are currently viewing in HeinOnline.

While viewing an article, click on the small page icon in the Firefox address bar.

To access the list of articles you have bookmarked, click on the word "ZOTERO" in the left corner of the Firefox status bar. You can see the middle window contains a list of the articles I have bookmarked. The right-hand pane contains all of the metadata associated with that article.

For more information on use of Zotero; including exporting your bookmarks, and generating bibliographies, we recommend reading the Zotero support page.

HeinOnline's Tip of the Week: Blue Book Citation Lookup

Did you know that there are currently 1224 titles in HeinOnline's Law Journal library? Add that to all of the the title changes that have occurred through the years, and you end up with 1640 different Blue Book citations that you could possibly use in the library. Here at HeinOnline we understand that keeping track of all those citations can be a daunting task. That's why we've developed a new Blue Book citation lookup tool.

To use this feature, you first need to enter the Law Journals Library, or one of the Law Journals Sub-Libraries. Next, click on the 'Citation Navigator' tab located near the top of the page. In the Citation Navigator tab, you will see a link that reads "Find Blue Book Citation". Click this link.

You will now see a list of all of the titles available in the library, along with the citation(s) associated with that title. Clicking the letters listed across the top of the screen will quickly jump you to the titles that begin with that letter.

Clicking a title in this list presents the option to fill in the volume and page number of the citation you are looking for.

This is another example of how we are continually working to make HeinOnline a better tool for our users. Please let us know what you think about this enhancement, or anything else in HeinOnline by clicking the feedback button located at the top of your HeinOnline screen.

HeinOnline's Tip of the Week: Browse CFR Indexes and Finding Aids

Last week, we mentioned in our monthly announcement a number of new enhancements in HeinOnline. We would like to highlight one in particular that is a new enhancement to the CFR library.

In January, we received a feedback email from Susan Lewis-Somers at American University's Washington College of Law. In the email, Susan suggested we add a "Browse by CFR Index" option to the CFR library in HeinOnline because; "...most users don't know they can find the indexes at the end of the Bindings browse option." We thought this suggestion would be a great addition to the CFR library. Thanks Susan!

You can find the new "Indexes and Finding Aids" link on the Resources tab under the Browse By heading in the Code of Federal Regulations/Federal Register Library.

In the link lists all of the CFR Indexes and Finding Aids that are currently available in HeinOnline
in descending chronological order. This list will be updated as we continue to add new CFR volumes to the library.

As we continually strive to make HeinOnline a better tool for its users, We would like to encourage everyone to send us their suggestions for improvement. Use the feedback link located at the top of the page in HeinOnline, and let us know your ideas!
